KABUL (Pajhwok): The Population Registration Department (PRD) head on Tuesday said the process of issuing electronic national identity (e-NIC) cards has been postponed to next week because of the president’s busy schedule.

Homayoon Mohtat, PRD head, said his office was ready to start issuing the computerized ID cards but the Administrative Office of the President had told them that President Ashraf Ghani was busy this week and he would choose a day for the launch next week.

However, Mujib Rahman Rahimi, CEO office spokesman, said there were some reservations with regard to the decision of the joint committee of Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirgaand also some public representatives were against the decision of the committee.

“We should take more time considering these views and suggestions and then take a final decision and finalize the process through legal steps.”

Jan 2 (today) was declared the day for initiating the issuance of electronic ID cards, however, the process was postponed once again.
